WELCOME

Dear colleagues – It is my great pleasure to inform you that the 12th International Congress of the International Federation of Psychiatric Epidemiology will be held in Vienna, hosted by Professor Johannes Wancata. The main theme of this congress will be “Well being and mental disorder: epidemiological tools in the global village”, but, as usual, contributions to all aspects of psychiatric epidemiology are equally welcome. We look forward to seeing you in this fine city in 2009!

Glynn Harrison, President, IFPE

Dear friends and colleagues!

It is a great honour and pleasure for me to welcome you to the 12th International Congress of IFPE in Vienna, April 16 – 19, 2009. Vienna has a sound tradition of social sciences research in psychiatry including psychiatric epidemiology. In addition, Vienna is at the centre of Europe and has always been a gateway to the East. The close historical, cultural, political and economic relationship to Eastern and South Eastern-European countries resulted in an open-minded atmosphere which seems to be an excellent basis for international meetings. Thus, it is a great pleasure for us to host this stimulating event.

Herzlich Willkommen in Wien!

Johannes Wancata,
Local host
